Making eating healthy on a budget easier than ever.

About A Foodie On A Budget

My name is Alex Dunn and I am a Foodie On A Budget.

On this blog, I am going to buy groceries for my husband and I on an approximate food stamp budget. From these groceries, I am going to create healthy and tasty meals for the both of us for a week. I am going to prove that you can eat exciting and healthy food on an extremely low budget. I will post my grocery list, menu plan, and some recipes.

Fortunately for us, my husband and I are not on food stamps. But, we eat on close to a food stamp budget. I got the idea for this Blog after my husband got laid off. We needed to curb our food budget and stay in and eat more. This was easier to do financially than I thought it would be.

I will spend less than $70 per week on groceries for my husband and I, which equals a food budget of $5 per person per day. Food stamps in my area are usually worth $4.50 per person per day. This is less than eating just one fast food meal!

This isn't meant to be a true description of what life on a food stamp budget is. I admire people who feed their families on food stamps alone. But, I will be blogging about our true experiences, which involves using the spices and some kitchen staples that I already have in my kitchen. Hopefully, this blog can help people who need to eat healthfully and cheap.

I will have four types of posts:

1. Menu and Grocery List- where you will see what we are eating for the week and the grocery list for it
2. Recipes- where I will share recipes from our weekly menu plan
3. Waste Not- where I will share ideas for not wasting less-than-fresh food
4. Tips and Tricks- where I will share some tips and tricks for eating healthy and delicious food for less than $5 per person per day

I hope you enjoy taking this journey with me.
